“A journey between Izmir and Antalya, an exceptional ancient heritage in a dazzling Mediterranean setting!”
Why this trip
Between Izmir and Antalya, the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey offer one of the most beautiful playgrounds in the Mediterranean for a motorcycle trip: rolling hills, winding roads, sea lights, and above all, a density of ancient ruins that naturally extend the Greek narrative... in a different setting.
Here, you often drive between two worlds: on one side, coastal roads that hug turquoise coves and pine forests; on the other, more inland roads that climb towards the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, with a series of bends, elevation changes, and panoramic views.
The famous D400 concentrates spectacular sections on the Turkish Riviera, while offering escape routes to quieter secondary roads.
In terms of "long stays," it's a festival: Ephesus (a must-see), then, strung along the Aegean, Greek-inspired cities such as Priene, Miletus, and Didyma.
And between two days of riding, the stages have that extra touch of soul that we love: small ports, seaside terraces facing the setting sun, swimming.
On the Mediterranean coast, you can easily alternate between bays and ancient sites right by the water (such as Phaselis, where you can literally combine ruins and swimming) and nature getaways (such as Saklıkent Canyon, impressive for its depth and length).
Ultimately, the appeal of this region lies in its obvious continuity with Greece (the Aegean Sea, Hellenic heritage, Mediterranean lifestyle), but with a different palette: wilder coastlines in places, more rugged terrain, and Anatolia adding a different color.
Journey schedule
Overview
The perfect road trip to combine the pleasure of riding a motorcycle on superb roads, taking in the twists and turns and exceptional panoramas, with visits to the greatest sites of ancient or medieval Greece, and the charm of charming stops to enjoy hospitality and comfort.
-
Arrival at Izmir International Airport. Transfer to your hotel.
-
Panoramic drive between Izmir and Karaburun, historically known as Mimas, along winding mountain roads offering breathtaking views. The road runs along the coast towards Sığacık, a charming fishing village renowned for its peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
-
The itinerary begins with a winding coastal road offering breathtaking views of the Aegean coast. Head to Ephesus, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. After the visit, return to the coast for another stop by the sea.
-
An iconic journey through the Carian hinterland to Lake Bafa, once a gulf of the Aegean Sea. Along the way, catch a glimpse of Mount Latmos, the mythological refuge of the ancient gods. The route then winds its way along the coast and through the mountains to Akyaka, where lush forests meet the turquoise blue sea.
-
Leaving the Semiliye Peninsula, the route takes you along a magnificent Carian road through picturesque landscapes with some of the most beautiful views of the Turkish Mediterranean coast. In Dalyan, you can take a dip in the relaxing waters of Turtle Beach, surrounded by ancient ruins.
-
Head to Tlos to visit the archaeological site of the ancient Lycian city. The route then leads to the Saklikent Gorge, one of the deepest in the world. The road then winds its way through stunning scenery to Olympos.
-
A relaxing day by the sea swimming with turtles and enjoying the exceptional location.
For those who prefer to ride, a day-long motorcycle loop to the Bey Mountains and Sarikaya National Park allows you to immerse yourself in a very exotic natural environment where the Mediterranean influence disappears.
-
For the last day of motorcycling, we headed for the Western Taurus Mountains, but not without a detour to Phaselis to admire the ruins on the beach and take a dip in the turquoise waters.
Arrival in Antalya for a final evening by the water.
-
Depart Antalya for Istanbul in the morning for a free day that will allow you to soak up the atmosphere and see the city's most iconic sights.
For a more complete and relaxed visit, we recommend extending your stay by one or two additional days.
-
For those returning home, check-out and transfer to the airport for the return flight. For those extending their stay in Istanbul, another free day.
