In addition to bread, olive oil and wine, products with which Greek gastronomy is spontaneously associated, there are over a hundred protected specialties in Greece, which ranks in the top 5 in Europe, behind France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. On the wine front, Greece has also made great strides since joining the European Union in 1981. Mainly located in Macedonia, Thessaly, the Peloponnese, Crete and a few islands, Greek vineyards produce excellent wines.

With more than 3,000 years of history and no fewer than four empires, Greece has no shortage of treasures to share. The 19 Unesco World Heritage sites and 13 other remarkable sites awaiting classification bear witness to this.

The country is also exemplary when it comes to preserving natural sites and biodiversity. There are almost 450 Natura 2000 areas, representing around 20% of the territory, 15 national parks, including 2 recognized as world biodiversity reserves by Unesco, and 12 protected natural, forest and marine areas.
